LEWAS 2019 Highlights

Under the patronage of His Excellency Shaikh Mohamed bin Khalifa Al Khalifa, Minister of Oil, Kingdom of Bahrain and supported by NOGA, influential women in the energy industry organised the 5th edition of Leadership Excellence for Women Awards and Symposium (LEWAS).


Chaired by two of the most successful gender diversity leaders, Reem Al Ghanim - Division Head, Chemicals - HR and Support Services, Saudi Aramco and Ezz Almannai - Director, Planning and Development, National Oil & Gas Authority (NOGA), LEWAS 2019 was held from the 14th to the 16th October 2019 at the Bahrain International Exhibition & Convention Centre.


LEWAS seeks to address the challenges and opportunities for women leaders in the Energy industry. The objective of LEWAS remains to continuously strive to Engage, Empower & Elevate women in the energy industry. This exciting initiative for women provides a platform to honor outstanding and successful industry achievers. The awards encourage ambition and inspire new female leaders now and into the future.

The Awards
LEWAS 2019 Awards recognized and honoured men and women, who through their efforts and achievement, made significant and lasting contributions to their organisations and community.

The winners were announced at the Gala Dinner that was organised on the 15th October at the Gulf Hotel, Kingdom of Bahrain.
The Workshops

LEWAS conducted workshops and mentoring sessions to help participants understand why mentor-ship matters, how it can make a notable difference and help build a more knowledgeable workforce.
The Symposium
The one-day symposium held on the 16th of October, provided participants with insight and advice from high level executives and past LEWAS award winners.

The LEWAS Symposium focused on what happens when women are empowered to make their full contribution to innovation and creativity. It discussed the need for diversity and inclusion in the energy sector and its correlation to organisational performance. It also highlighted the fact that majority of the senior leaders in today’s business world are men and are thus in the best position to influence cultural and organisational change.
